Exploring the associations between narcissism, intentions towards infidelity, and relationship satisfaction:Attachment styles as a moderator

    Get PDF
The ultimate goal of this research was twofold: (1) to investigate the associations between narcissism, intentions towards infidelity, and relationship satisfaction; and (2) to explore the moderating effect of attachment styles on the link between intentions towards infidelity and narcissism. The findings revealed that the link between narcissism and relationship satisfaction is fully mediated by intentions towards infidelity. Similarly, the full mediating effect of relationship satisfaction exists in the association between narcissism and intentions towards infidelity. Mediational analyses further revealed that narcissism is a predictor of intentions towards infidelity, and this link is moderated by preoccupied, fearful, and dismissive attachment styles. As the results indicate, narcissism plays a significant role in young adults’ intimate relationships, and attachment styles have a moderating role in narcissism’s effect on romantic relationships. Results and implications are discussed in light of the relevant research findings

An investigation of the use of the iPad and textbooks on the achievement of students with special needs in algebra

Educational leaders and policy-makers assume that replacing the technological tools currently used in schools with new, portable ones will result in widespread usage of the device for educational purposes by students and teacher, and an increase in student achievement. This study examines these assumptions with twenty students taking an Algebra-2 course in a northern New Jersey charter school. The mixed methodology used in this study included classroom observations and assessments, surveys for both students and teachers, and interviews with parents through home visits. Findings show that iPad integration in an Algebra-2 class led to a slight increase in student achievement, as well as student participation and peer collaboration. However, interviews with parents and data from teacher surveys indicates that iPads can easily turn out to be a great distraction for students, if it does not happen along with instructional coherence and comprehensive changes in class. By highlighting a number of caveats with the effective implementation of iPads, and exploring the appropriate use of iPads in schools, the findings of this research shed light on avenues where educational leaders and policy-makers are charged with making the decision of whether to use iPads in classrooms in their districts as a valid educational tool of choice

Aim: To compare the efficacy and safety profiles of phacoemulsification machines using transversal and torsional ultrasonic power in hard cataract surgery. Methods: The medical records of patients having NO4-6 grade hard cataract based on the Lens Opacification Classification System III, and thereby, operated by using Whitestar Signature (with transversal ultrasonic power) or Infiniti Ozil IP (with torsional ultrasonic power) phacoemulsification machines were retrospectively reviewed. At baseline, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), cataract grade, intraocular pressure (IOP), central corneal thickness (CCT), and biometric parameters such as lens thickness or anterior chamber depth were noted. Intraoperatively, total phaco needle time and total surgery time were recorded. Postoperatively, corneal edema severity, BCVA, IOP, and CCT was examined at first, 7th and 30th days. Results: Ninety-eight eyes of 98 patients with an average age of 69.5±10.9 (47-88) years and an average follow-up time of 3.0±1.4 (1-6) months were included into the study. Total phaco needle time and surgery time were significantly shorter in the torsional US group compared to the transversal US group (112±46 vs 171±42 seconds and 9.2±3.5 vs 13.4±3.3 minutes, respectively, both p<0.001). Severe postoperative corneal edema was more common in patients in the transversal US group compared to the torsional US group. Conclusion: Transversal ultrasonic power is more likely to cause corneal edema in patients with hard cataract possibly due to increased phaco needle time and surgery time, compared to torsional ultrasonic power. Therefore, torsional ultrasonic power-based phacoemulsification machines should be the first option, in patients whose corneas at risk of decompensation

Classification of Pulmonary Nodules by Using Hybrid Features

    Get PDF
Early detection of pulmonary nodules is extremely important for the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. In this study, a new classification approach for pulmonary nodules from CT imagery is presented by using hybrid features. Four different methods are introduced for the proposed system. The overall detection performance is evaluated using various classifiers. The results are compared to similar techniques in the literature by using standard measures. The proposed approach with the hybrid features results in 90.7% classification accuracy (89.6% sensitivity and 87.5% specificity)

How the demos [Public] regulate the kratos [Administration] through repeated elections: Lessons learned from the elections in Turkiye for the government and opposition

Objections to the results of conducted elections and repeated elections are a significant issue. The aim of this study is to investigate repeated elections and the reasons for canceling them through the decisions of Turkiye's Supreme Election Council (SEC) since its establishment and to examine the results of repeated elections to reveal which side benefits from this. According to the results of the content analysis, the study found within the frame of the investigated period the SEC to have annulled a total of five elections, four of which had been local and one that had been a parliamentary election, and the most frequent reason for repeating the elections to have been due to restricted or ineligible voters voting, which occurred for four separate elections. Lessons exist for the government and opposition parties to learn from these annulled and repeated elections, with repeated elections generally resulting in an unfavorable outcome for the contesting party

A series of plasma globulin studies was carried out on 108 patients who were operated on for splenic trauma during the last 3 years. The reasons for splenectomy or spleen salvage were; gunshot wounds in 22 patients (20.3%); stab injuries in 10 patients (9.2%) and blunt abdominal trauma in 76 patients (70.3%). Plasma gamma globulin determinations were made on the 8th postoperative day and at 3 months. In the splenectomy group; plasma gamma globulin determinations demonstrated a significant reduction in serum IgM levels (p < 0.001) but no significant changes in IgA and IgG levels (p > 0.05). No changes were detected in IgA, IgG and IgM levels in the spleen salvage group (p > 0.05)

    Get PDF
With the advancement of green energy technology and rising public and political acceptance, electric vehicles (EVs) have grown in popularity. Electric motors, batteries, and charging systems are considered major components of EVs. The electric power infrastructure has been designed to accommodate the needs of EVs, with an emphasis on bidirectional power flow to facilitate power exchange. Furthermore, the communication infrastructure has been enhanced to enable cars to communicate and exchange information with one another, also known as Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology. V2X is positioned to become a bigger and smarter system in the future of transportation, thanks to upcoming digital technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Distributed Ledger Technology, and the Internet of Things. However, like with any technology that includes data collection and sharing, there are issues with digital privacy and cybersecurity. This paper addresses these concerns by creating a multi-layer Cyber-Physical-Social Systems (CPSS) architecture to investigate possible privacy and cybersecurity risks associated with V2X. Using the CPSS paradigm, this research explores the interaction of EV infrastructure as a very critical part of the V2X ecosystem, digital privacy, and cybersecurity concerns
